Read the land.
Bring a question.
A 25-minute classroom activity about observation, models, and the questions we take to a living cultural place.
No student names or accounts. Notes stay in this browser. On shared devices, download your work and clear it when finished.
What can a map show?
Open the 3D landscape. Compare the higher ground with the valley. Find a trail and notice how it relates to the terrain.
Open the 3D landscape ↗The terrain uses 2019 elevation data. Buildings and vegetation are simplified. This is a learning model, not a current visitor map.
Evidence or interpretation?
A model shows a group of animated bison. What can we conclude?
Discuss: does an animation establish the location or behaviour of a real herd? Explain why.
Ask someone who knows the place.
Wanuskewin’s own programs connect Northern Plains Indigenous cultures, histories, and the land. Choose a question you would like to discuss with an educator on your visit.

Teacher notes
Use one classroom screen or shared devices. Accept spoken, drawn, or written responses. Ask students to distinguish an observation from a claim that needs more evidence. Keep the park’s educators at the centre of place-specific interpretation.
Proposed pilot evidence: teacher feedback, completion of the question/reflection activity, and a short discussion of model limitations. No learning improvement is claimed before evaluation.
